Does the financial turmoil have you worrying about your personal finances? Maybe you, like me, just want to eliminate all the debt you’ve accumulated over the years.
Some of the local banks and credit unions offer financial counseling to help their clients learn the basics of budgets and finance. Several will work with your creditors to strengthen your credit score; much like those third-party companies you see on TV commercials.
But if you can’t find the kind of help you need from your bank consider stopping by one of the El Paso YWCA or YMCA locations. The YWCA has a Consumer Credit Counseling Service program that offers money management education classes on bankruptcy, budget counseling, and homeownership. Most of the classes are free, but some do have a fee of about $25. Schedule an appointment by calling (915) 774-1757 or send an e-mail to cccs@ywcaelpaso.org.
The YMCA Financial Assistance program works more closely with individuals. You’ll need to fill out the YMCA application (.pdf) and pay a nominal fee based on your income.Good luck!
