Along the Kern Place eastern border is Crazy Cat Mountain which is recognized for its desert trails with challenging routes and amazing vistas. Crazy Cat is said to be a huge block of limestone that once existed higher along the Franklin Mountains, but slid down.

Mountain bikers and runners can start at Rim Road and Robinson Avenue to explore the beauty of the Franklin Mountains. The popularity of the mountain trails inspired the name of the locally-owned business, Crazy Cat Cyclery.
